How to wash my sofa slipcover from Comfort Works?Updated 9 months ago

Wondering how to keep your Comfort Works sofa slipcover looking fresh? Here's your go-to guide!

For Most Fabric Covers:

  1. Use a Gentle Cycle: Opt for a gentle cycle with mild laundry detergent.
  2. Zip Up: Make sure to zip up cushion covers before washing to avoid tangling and pulling.
  3. Spot-Clean Stains: For tougher stains, pre-treat them with a dilute dish soap solution before machine washing.

Check Your Detergent: Avoid detergents with bleaching agents (this includes chlorine- or oxygen-based bleaches). Here’s what to watch out for:

  • Ingredients ending in -hypochlorite
  • Ingredients ending in -percarbonate
  • Ingredients ending in -perborate
  • Hydrogen peroxide or ingredients ending in -peroxide

If you're unsure, check the product’s ingredient list or contact the detergent manufacturer to confirm it's bleach-free.

Oxygen bleach, often labelled as "non-chlorine bleach" or "colour-safe bleach" is a common ingredient in many popular detergents. Brands like OxiClean, Clorox Color-Load Non-Chlorine Bleach, Vanish stain removers, Astonish Oxi Active stain removers, The Pink Stuff Oxi Powder, and Persil (especially the powdered versions) contain it. However, using oxygen bleach can lead to fading or discolouration of sofa cover fabrics.

Drying:

  • Never tumble or machine dry as it can cause unpredictable shrinkage and warping of the sofa covers.
  • Line or drip dry, but avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading.

Important Note: Some Comfort Works fabrics boast stain & spill resistance. While these treatments offer lasting protection, frequent washing can reduce their effectiveness. For optimal performance, consider spot cleaning or gentle hand-washing whenever possible.

For Bycast Leather and Vegan Leather:

  1. Wipe Down: Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the covers.
  2. Spot Clean: For stubborn stains, use a dilute dish soap solution and follow with a damp cloth to remove any residue.
  3. Avoid Commercial Cleaners: Stay away from leather cleaners with organic solvents or oils to prevent damage.

By following these tips, you'll keep your sofa slipcovers looking pristine and prolong their life. Happy cleaning!
